Like gae pointed out, smoking is still LEGAL. I don't like it and would like to see it banned entirely but until such time, I have to adjust.
If council elects to enforce a smoking ban in restaurants and bars, then we will adjust to that as well.

I too, adjust. As a matter of fact I'm always adjusting. If it's not the least convenient table, it's a longer wait, or a simple refusal to enter an establishment. But in my opinion, I'm not the one who should be adjusting. The air is perfectly fine until the smoker pollutes it. They should adjust.
The problem here is that for too long the discussion has always been framed in the context of the smokers. The smokers want their "rights" and the one's who want clean are infringing on those rights.
That is so wrong.
It's the other way around. We have a right to clean air. If a business is inviting the general public to frequent their establishment they have a moral obligation to provide clean, breathable air.
Gae can pollute her lungs into the cows come home- I don't care. Just don't pollute mine.

As trav said, the studies on second hand smoke may be bogus. But it's safe to say second hand smoke is unhealthy, and totally acccurate to say it's not healthy.

That is generally the point of the entire thing Jumper. Why should those who choose not to smoke face the same health risks as those who do choose to smoke? Although there are a ton of grey areas it remains the basis of argument.
If I make the choice not to smoke, them I dont want someone elses choice to smoke to afftect my health.
Second hand smoke is unfiltered from a burning cigarrette and more hazardous than the stuff inhaled by the smoker themself, and that is why they are seeking the ban.
Lexington does it.
Toledo Does it.
Columbus is trying to do it.

I never said there would be a ban on smoking. I said I'D like to see smoking banned. But I digress....
All I can do is lobby for a smoking restriction in public places. Personally the habit disgusts me.
